Here is a wonderful opportunity for teens and near teens to attend a week long intensive summer class where the whole family can come and vacation alongside of them. Island Mountain Arts in Wells, BC has been running summer programs in harp for more than 35 years; they're the oldest harpschool in the province - and we think, the best!
Occasionally we have the opportunity to offer a class for teens and younger students, and this year is one of them. The students will study in the mornings with Shoshanna Godber, a fine harpist and singer whose arrangements are sold widely and whose youtube videos who her arranging, singing and playing skills. The class will encompass techniquue and all those things the teacher might not cover in regular lessons, and good dose of theory and how to apply it to make your own arrangements, some of the intricacies of moving between pedal and lever harps, and how to play with ease and relaxed nerves.
The afternoons are spent with all the other harpists in series of special interest topics by each of the instructors, and an optional ensemble session, led by me. Evenings are for concerts, and special events and practicing at the school.
You can bring your pedal harp or lever, but there are stairs - a lot of them, so if you have a good lever harp, that would be preferable. Registration and more information is at www.imarts.com
Barkerville Historic Town and Bowron Lakes are next door, and have lots to offer the whole family for the week. I'm happy to answer questions if you have them - and if you have young harpers you know if, please let them know what a great chance this is to study at an otherwise adult summer school.
